| Here it is! Part two of the dune trip with Tommy's Desert Tours.
As I mentioned in the previous bulletin, I was really interested in the night trip, as it presents a very different world. We (humans) or definitely out of our element at night. The smaller creatures of the desert however could not feel more at ease. Life was to be found everywhere. Tommy was amazing as he tracked and spotted a number of animals. |

When venturing into the dunes at night, watch your step! You might just tread on what is probably the cutest resident of this area. The Palmato Gecko. They were every where. I stopped counting them after 30, because I realised that I would encounter them every step of the way. With their huge eyes and translucent skin they make captivating photographic subjects. Every bush, clay-bank and mound seems to harbour some life form at night. Tracks were everywhere and easy to follow as there was no wind to obliterate them. By tracking we managed to find a Peringuey's Adder and a sleeping chameleon. Once again, the scorpions remained elusive. We did however find a spider that until now remains unidentified. I hope to obtain this information soon. I will let you all know what it is. If you have the chance, book a trip with Tommy and experience the dunes at night. You will not regret it. |

The eye of this Peringuey's Adder is all that was visible, and it is much smaller than it is depicted here.
