Rossing Mountain

Even up in the air I managed to try a panorama! Rossing Mountain from the air!

We are all subject to ludicrously insane behaviour from time to time!  There is the collection of everyday quirks of discomfort we put ourselves through, even though relief is easy enough to achieve.  On the less terminal side we have, the hot bath water dance.  Who hasn’t done this before!  Knowingly gotten into a near boiling bath and then proceeded to dance from foot to foot whilst waiting for the cold water to bring things down to a gentle poaching temperature!  All that was needed for instant relief was a quick step over the side!

The same goes for the hot potato syndrome!  As if the steam hissing from the tuber isn’t warning enough, we have all shoved a fork full into our mouths and then proceeded to bounce what may as well be a glowing ember from one side of the mouth to the other.  At the same time mouthing an exaggerated O and hyperventilating in the hope this will somehow minimize the big scorch!  And the strange thing is we do it time and time again in countless variations.

Then there are the more terminal activities.  One notable case being a person with a fondness for strapping a homemade rocket to his back, all in pursuit of a few seconds of lift, scorched trousers and singed hair.  Not surprising, considering the fact that he has tanks of hydrogen peroxide merrily mixing away at 900 psi and emitting an instant roast factor of 600 degrees c! All within centimetres of his rear-end!  Sunday roast anyone? Kind of goes with the potato mentioned earlier…

Then there is this contraption that some bright spark came up with one day!  Somehow this person cooked up the notion that it might be an idea to attach a lawnmower engine to his sisters pram, ram in a tent pole and by means of one single bolt attach a kite to the whole mix!  This was then launched off the nearest roof top and hey presto the micro light was born!  Of course I have just grossly exaggerated the birth of the micro light in a highly misguided fashion…so please discard all I have mentioned… None of it is true!

What has all this to do with the images that follow?  Absolutely nothing, other than that they were taken from a micro light!  Being able to get into the air courtesy of Branko is always a great thrill and privilege!  Even though the wing is attached to the trike (bottom portion of the micro light i.e. seats, body, engine etc) by one single bolt!  That part is (disturbingly) very true!  Enjoy the images!
Moon Valley!
The Swakop River twists and contorts through the Moon Valley!
Lunar vistas!
It is hard to believe that water can and does flow here from time to time! This certainly does have a lunar feel to it!
Veins spread across the land!
Cracking veins creep across the land...
Peaceful moments
At ground level you find ridges, gravel plains and small water courses...the patterns however only reveal themselves from the air!

The mist rolls in! The main life giving substance of the desert!
